Spring 2010
Gorleston Excavation
A Norvic Archaeology team successfully carried out an excavation in Gorleston in advance of property development, on behalf of APS Archaeology. The site offered a rare insight into the Medieval past of the town. Giles will be exploring the results in more detail as he produces the Assessment and Excavation reports for the project.
Gressenhall History Fair
As part of the Gressenhall History Fair, Giles helped to run the Young Archaeologists' Club stand and invited children of all ages to take part in the excavation of an 'early Saxon' burial. For more photos see the Education and Outreach page.
Thetford Field Survey
A team assembled by Norvic Archaeology have been assisting Northamptonshire Archaeology in an extensive fieldwalking survey to the North of Thetford. The project is in advance of proposed development in the town as part of the Moving Thetford Forward Partnership. Giles was co-author of the Thetford Historic Environment Survey that was commissioned in 2009, the report can be found on their website.
2009
Caistor Roman Town Project
Giles was part of the supervisory team at the Caistor Roman Town Project alongside other freelance colleagues. The project is hoped to become a yearly fixture in the Norvic calendar and is a joint collaboration between Nottingham University, South Norfolk District Council, Norfolk Museums and Archaeological Service and the Norfolk Archaeological Trust. The dig blog can be found here and the preliminary report (.pdf) can be downloaded here.
